2021 is already shaping up to be an exciting year as we announce the intent to certify our facility to the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program through NSF International. According to NSF International, "the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program is a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarked food safety standard based on Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)."
That's quite the list of acronyms to digest in one sitting. So what does all of this mean? According to Lanna Coffee President and CEO Matt Alanis "this type of certification is going to help us accomplish a few different things. First, it's going to strengthen the Lanna Coffee brand by demonstrating that we're committed to not only sourcing great coffee, but also quality processes and continual improvement. Secondly, it's going to help us expand our market share through top retailers looking to partner with local socially-conscious brands without sacrificing on food safety."
Widely recognized as one of the most rigorous and comprehensive food safety and quality standards in the world, SQF certification provides independent verification that a facility’s food safety and risk mitigation strategies are appropriate and effective. This certification process, which includes several comprehensive audits, will be completed at the end of 2021, and will make Lanna Coffee one of the first independent specialty roasters to be certified in the United States.
