August Roaster’s Choice:
Colombia Huila La Plata
A harmonious blend of smallholder dedication and regional character — bright, layered, and deeply satisfying.
☕ What Makes This Release Special?
Colombia’s Huila region has long been celebrated for its vibrant, complex coffees, and this release captures that reputation perfectly. Our La Plata lot comes from 25 producers, each tending to an average of just one acre of land in the municipality of La Plata. These producers are organized under Terra Coffee SAS, an association dedicated to quality and sustainability.
Every farmer handles harvesting, depulping, fermenting, washing, and drying at their own micro-mill. After a careful 40–50 hour fermentation, the coffee is dried inside solar dryers that protect it from rain while allowing a slow, even process that locks in sweetness. The result is a coffee that is clean and consistent — yet nuanced, with subtle differences from each farm contributing to a rich complexity in the cup.

🌄 Why Huila?
Nestled in the Andes, Huila offers altitudes from 1,650 to 1,900 meters and rich clay mineral soils — ideal conditions for developing dense, flavorful coffee beans. Its microclimates, seasonal rains, and consistent temperatures create coffees known for their bright acidity, layered fruit notes, and balanced sweetness.
Huila’s coffees are almost entirely produced by smallholder farmers, making it a region where quality is directly tied to the care and craftsmanship of the individuals who cultivate it.
🏡 About Terra Coffee SAS
Terra Coffee SAS is a community-focused association that supports producers in improving their farm management and post-harvest practices. By providing a framework for collaboration, Terra Coffee ensures that each farmer’s hard work contributes to a cohesive, high-quality regional profile.
Once harvested and processed, the coffee is handled by Mastercol, an export company that manages milling, warehousing, and international logistics. This partnership allows farmers to receive better prices, reinvest in their farms, and strengthen their families’ livelihoods.
